There are so many people who have nothing, and will expect nothing this Christmas.

Buy a copy of the Big Issue or find a way to give to a charity.

5th December

We have so many things!

As you think of things you have, draw each one and thank God for them.

4th December

…  Be still and wait …

Get creative! Use a box to make a stable (or draw one) – empty and waiting … 

Ask God to give you what you need.

3rd December

… the desires of your heart …

What are you waiting and hoping for? Write a list, then sit down today with someone and talk to them about it.

2nd December

Read the first part of Psalm 37 verses 4,5 and the first part of verse 7. Draw a picture of what it means to you or write it down in your own words.

1st December

Find or make a physical space where you can go and be quiet for a few minutes each day in Advent. Ask God to help you make space for Him in your life.

Welcome to St Silas Advent blog ‘07!

This blog was designed with a few purposes in mind, by a few of us involved at St Silas Church in Glasgow!

Firstly, to create a space for people to reflect on what advent and this Christmas season is really all about. To really consider what it means for God to send his son into our world, so that we can have a relationship with Him. To consider how we live out our Christian faith in a society where God is often forgotten, or rejected or ignored. To reflect on what it means for us to wait on Jesus- his arrival in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago created quite a stir, and as believers we need to ask ourselves how we are awaiting his return…

Each day between 1st- 25th December there will be a post encouraging you to take time out and focus on a particular bible verse; or engage in a small activity; or reflect on an aspect of life. You can use these however you wish!

The next was to provide a space where you, as part of this community, can contribute. Everyone has different reflections, ideas and experiences, and this blog forum is a place where we would encourage you to reflect and inspire others to pursue a deeper understanding of God and what Christmas is really about.

This can be done in a number of ways…
- by posting a thought or reflection, perhaps on something you have read or experienced
- by posting an image- perhaps there is a photo, or picture which has inspired you, that would like to share with others

we would encourage you to be creative, feel free to share and to please keep the focus centered around this advent season!
